Haven't updated in forever, I know...

I'm actually in London right now. Just flew in ... oh i dunno, something like 20 hours ago maybe? I lost track of time. I've pretty damn jetlagged.

I'm here with the general manager of our international division, pitching potential partners. I've been refocused at work. Instead of working purely on the online/mobile space, now I'm responsible for all of our new international efforts. We signed a deal with Seven Networks in Australia to launch a TiVo down under next year, so that's my biggest project and TiVo Mexico should launch pretty soon too. It's a great change of pace and I'm getting some cool new experience. Not to mention, I get to jet around the world a little.

- ooh. room service just brought me some water. i didn't order it, i guess they just send it up? Too bad I don't have any change to tip the dude. -

Anyways... tomorrow I fly to Berlin and might drop down by the huge German electronics show, IFA. Come back to London for meetings and then it's off to Amsterdam for IBC, another tradeshow and yet more meetings.

My sister Rachel is living in London now, so in a few hours, I'm actually going to grab some dinner with her. Couldn't be any sooner... I mean I really want to see Rachel, but I'm starving. I might need to crawl out of my hotel hovel (actually, it's pretty nice) and scrounge up some food before hand.

... hmmm. must put on clothes and find food ...

Down under and back!

So along with some photos of Sydney and Fiji, I also managed to bring back a little bird flu... so apologies for my late update. (Actually, when I was checking into the Wananavu resort in Fiji, they did have a sign warning tourists not to mess with the local birds... no joke!)

So TiVo sent me down to Sydney last weekend to help close a deal with Seven Networks to bring TiVo down under. Seven is kinda like NBC or CBS in the US. They're the largest television broadcaster and a really powerful company. Unlike the US, no one really has cable, most everyone gets their telvision broadcasted for free digitally over the air.

I wasn't actually planning on updating all of you on this trip 'cuz I wasn't supposed to talk about it... but since we issued a press release last Tuesday announcing the deal, it's no longer top secret. :)

Here's a shot of the Seven Networks boardroom. Very fancy! The headquarters are in this renovated military building right on the harbor. It's an awesome mix of old brick, polished wood floors, stainless steel and glass. Very San Francisco modern.

Wed night we went out to "Flying Fish" one of the top ten restaurants in Sydney. Quite chic!

Harbour Bridge

On Thursday after a pretty exhausting week, I parted ways with my coworkers and detoured to Fiji before returning to the US... Amazingly, about a month before this trip, my old friend from highschool Jae contacted me... I haven't heard from him in nearly 13 years! He's currently working as the Director of operations for Fiji Water... yes, the Fiji Water that all the movie stars drink nowadays. Anyways, Jae graciously helped to score me an awesome stay in Wananavu resort and took me all around the island.

I dunno about you, but when I think of Fiji water, I imagine a tall waterfall with beautiful island girls scooping out buckets of water and bottling it all up... Ok, maybe not quite that romantic... but I definitely imagined something more picturesque than this:

Those little white shacks are the pumps that draw water from the underground aquifers, from which all the Fiji Water comes from.

Here's Jae in front of some crazy bottling machine... the plant is highly automated and all of the assembly machines come from Germany. So there are these great warnings and notes in German all over them.

Drinking "cava" with the locals... cava is this really weird drink made of pounded out roots... it's an anesthetic and it numbs your mouth, your body and your thinking... kinda like a tranquilizer i think. Jae told Papu and the other locals that I've never had cava before... so they were kinda out to get me.

So being the good son that I am, I ordered flowers for Mom on Mother's Day.
One dozen yellow roses.

Yesterday I get back home after lunch and my roommate Scott says:
"Hey Jason! Dude! Someone got you flowers!"

"... oooh! Flowers for me! No way... Wow! Who could have sent them!"

I tear the box open only to find... one dozen yellow roses... oh and a card:

"Happy Mother's Day Mom! Love you. Always! - Jason"

...

God, I'm such a dork sometimes.

Oh well, I think Mom enjoyed the story more than the actual flowers anyways.

...

Oh and on an unrelated note, I got this from my friend Clara and had to post it too. :)

I think I'm going to move!

Considering some houses in Willow Glen, Campbell or downtown San Jose... actually last night I went to go see one in downtown that was really cool. Two blocks from Japantown... huge open floorplan, remodeled Victorian.

After 7 years, I think it might be time to leave 'the house on Tulip'...
